I am expressing my concern over the proposed paving of the overflow parking lot at the Nanoose Community Centre. It seems like a colossal waste of taxpayer money to pave this rarely-used lot just so a few tires won’t get dusty.
Looking at the job and basing it on my limited knowledge of paving, I would say it will cost roughly $60-80,000 to do this work.
Why is the RDN wasting these funds when they could put them to work improving the centre itself?
As it stands, the centre caters mainly to one part of the community, that being seniors — there are little or no programs for families, single people, young adults, etc. There’s no gym, not much of anything in this taxpayer-funded facility, yet paving the balance of the parking lot seems to be a priority.
I’m truly puzzled.
