Parkland isn’t just a bunch of lots

This area is not a bunch of lots but rather is an important wildlife ecosystem.

To the Editor,

Re: Park purchase a shady deal, Letters, June 19.

This area is not a bunch of lots but rather is an important wildlife ecosystem with interconnected wetland ponds and woodland areas and many different species of birds and other wildlife. It is a wild area and is not a groomed grassy park. Once these areas disappear they are gone forever and we, the people of Nanaimo as well as all of the wildlife that inhabit these areas, are the ones who will suffer.

This purchase is not all about the money. It would cost far more than the city is paying for the properties, to develop them into subdivisions, and build and maintain roads and infrastructure, then to leave it in its natural state.

The only conflict of interest in my opinion is the letter writer’s inability to see that some purchases of wild spaces in this time and day are far more important than what is paid for them. Linley Valley West will more than pay for itself in years to come.
