Pay raises for mayors and councils reasonable?
Looking at the proposed raises for the Duncan and North Cowichan councils, I took the new pay rates, subtracted the new, additional taxes (at a 15 per cent rate on the 30 per cent of their salaries that had been tax exempt) that councillors will have to pay and found that excluding that new expense, Duncan mayor and councillor pay rates will increase by a reasonable five per cent and eight per cent respectively while North Cowichan pay rates will increase (unreasonably?) 20 per cent and 18 per cent respectively for its mayor and councillors.
