Dear editor,
I just watched the videos showing the construction of the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge in Golden, B.C.
This is the bridge the Comox Valley Cycling Coalition wants to emulate.
Wow. That is some bridge. I can see why it would cost $3 million.
It would be a serious feat if the Cycling Coalition can pull that off.
However, here is a problem I have with it, the issue of whether this is a wise use of public money notwithstanding.
If it comes to pass, we would end up with a magnificent $3 million bridge for cyclists and pedestrians, beside a bridge for vehicles (which accommodates cyclists and pedestrians) that nobody can come up with the money to even paint.
All power to the proponents, but to me it would seem just a bit incongruous to have this tremendous tribute to timber frame construction next to that sorry sad sight of a steel structure right in the middle of downtown Comox Valley.
Do you know what I’m saying?
