A series of speakers will discuss issues at the Summerland Philosophers’ Cafe this winter and spring. The cafe series is organized by the Community Cultural Development Committee and features a diverse range of topics and speakers.
Margaret Holler, a member of the committee, said the evenings are intended to promote further dialogue on a variety of topics. “It’s not really a traditional seminary,” she said. “You are able to have a much greater participation.” The 2012 season begins on Wednesday, Feb. 29 and continues until April.
On Feb. 29, Allison Rennie, Director of Leadership Development at the Naramata Centre and a masters student in creative writing, will speak on Writing from the Heart – the Artful Practice of Creative Writing.
On March 14, Dr. Norah Keating, gerontologist and professor in the Department of Human Ecology at the University of Alberta will speak on Counting on Families to Support Older Adults—A Good Approach to Population Aging?
On April 11, Rosemary Thomson, music director of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, will speak on Music Gives Voice to the Richness of the Human Experience.
On April 18, the Food Action Society will have an Earth Week discussion on food security and working toward local food sustainability.
The series takes place at the Summerland Art Gallery, 9533 Main St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the discussion begins at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.
