To the Editor,
Re: No decision from council on incinerator, Dec. 5.
Have you ever noticed that the people who claim facilities like incinerators or nuclear waste storage schemes are safe and good job creators, never put them in their own communities? The City of Vancouver has bylaws making it illegal to build incinerators in their community. What do they know that we don’t?
Favouring this proposal because our prevailing wind is from the west is very short-sighted. Much of the time winds are unpredictable. With the quantity of garbage contemplated for this plant, if even one tenth of one percent exits the smoke stack, the contaminant fallout will be measured in tonnes.
Vancouver should handle its own garbage problems, not export them to more hard-up cities who are willing to sell out their environment for a few jobs and 30 pieces of silver.
