As a resident of Qualicum Beach, I often travel down Village Way to Highway 19A, so I of course travel through the intersection of Qualicum Road, and sometimes I even see one or two other cars in either direction in my round trip journey.
A recent story in The NEWS reports a total of 15 accidents between 2009 and 2013. That is on average a whopping three accidents per year, or one every 121.66666666 days. Sure there may be a few more minor dings that both drivers decide that the accident is not worth reporting to ICBC, but I for one certainly cannot see that either the traffic volume or the accident rate justifies a roundabout.
Also, last I checked, pedestrians have the right of way for crossing at any and every intersection or marked crosswalk in B.C. With the traffic volume I see, if a pedestrian senses that a car is not going to stop for them, perhaps he/she can wait the five or 10 seconds for the car to pass and then cross the street.
