Public healthcare in B.C. doing great job
There is a persistent impression that British Columbia’s universal healthcare system is in imminent prospect of collapse under various criticisms of overcrowding, cleanliness, inadequate staffing etc.
My recent involvement with the Cowichan District Hospital is an indication that this impression is misrepresentative of the actual situation. This observation does not mean that there are not improvements in the system, but with my recent knee replacement I have nothing but gratitude and praises for the system that I experienced. All aspects of my care were skilled appropriate and preformed with consummate concern and thoughtfulness.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the people involved with my care, beginning with our family GP Dr. D.K Froese, who offered knowledge and patience throughout this episode. The pre-operation staff of nurses Michelle, Samantha, and the other administration staff who made the whole experience clear and uncomplicated. Even though the working conditions are less than ideal the staff in the laboratory and imaging departments were efficient and considerate. Of course, I must recognize Dr. N. Levy and his orthopedic surgery team for their expertise and acumen. And finally, but not least Carol and the physiotherapy staff who (even though I am a poster boy for knee replacement) had me up and moving without pain exceptionally rapidly.
I am appreciative and grateful for all the professionals involved in my care and I thank the foresight of past and present Canadians who chose to see healthcare as a right for all and not a privilege of a few.
