Question not asked

Dear Sir:

For some years now my circle has discussed how the media in all forms has censored the news and events. This is accomplished by how the particular media will portray to the fullest that to which is their “leaning” and either ignoring or barely covering which is not to their liking.

Dear Sir:

For some years now my circle has discussed how the media in all forms has censored the news and events. This is accomplished by how the particular media will portray to the fullest that to which is their “leaning” and either ignoring or barely covering which is not to their liking.

Sensationalism is what sells. Should a crowd of a few hundred or thousands out of a city of two to three million be protesting, it would be excessively covered, with no mention that it is such a small percentage of the overall population that is going quietly about its living.

At the All Candidates Forum held in the R.E.M. Lee Theatre Wednesday April 20, I made a point of arriving early, with a printed question for the candidates. On being informed that members of the Rotary were there to collect these messages and present them to the media table on the stage, this was done.

When the moderator outlined the procedure and stated that questions were to be directed to a particular candidate, I caught the attention of the person to whom I had given my question and observed as he wrote on it the candidate as directed by me. The candidate was Clay Harmon.

I then watched as he presented this question to the media table, well before any others.

Although there were other questions from the media table, mine was not one of them. Had I known that they were going to stifle it, I would have lined up at the microphone and asked it myself. All to soon the forum was over and the question was not put.

Calling the attention of one of persons from the media table, I informed her that this was definitely an example of how the media censored information. Her only response was that there were many questions, to which my response was that mine was the very first, and on a subject not discussed during the forum, arctic sovereignship.

‘’The United States, Russia and Denmark are declaring the Arctic waters and lands ‘open.’ What is your party, and you, prepared to do about it.”
