Radiation emitted from bulbs only when switched on

To the Editor,

Re: Stock up on older light bulbs, Letters, Jan.13.

Thanks to Katharina Gustavs, a German-certified building biologist, for pointing out that the ballast of a fluorescent lamp emits electromagnetic radiation only when it’s turned on.

Building biologists look at the physical environment of a site, consider the best ways to build to blend in with that environment, and use non-toxic, health-promoting methods to construct healthy buildings. That includes everything from electrical wiring to air circulation and chemical exposures in building materials to natural light.

My apologies for misleading your readers.
