To the Editor,
Re: Is this the end of the line? April 9.
As I see it, there is a dire need to save our rail service.
It is time to act now to reduce the heavy traffic off of the Island Highway. Heavy freight should be shipped up Island by rail, not our highways.
There are many able-bodied men unemployed. Why not hire them to replace 104,000 ties and make the rail bed safe.
We owe it to our children, grandchildren and to the future generations to restore and maintain the Island rail service.
In addition, doing this now will boost the tourist trade immeasurably.
With the ever-increasing population of senior citizens, there are many that would enjoy a trip by rail Dayliner to Victoria to shop or up-Island for the day.
In my estimation, this could be our greatest legacy.
