A reserved hooray for the death of Osama bin Laden.
The obvious response is celebratory. But while the new is welcome by many, the outlook has undoubtedly worsened — for the United States and the rest of the world — bin Laden’s death brings with it a heightened sense of risk.
Without going into speculation, we must remember that with every terrorist killed a martyr is created which perpetuates the war.
I’m not saying don’t bring them to justice, but in order to turn the wider opinion toward sharing our definition of justice, bringing terrorists to stand in front of their accusers in a democratic court will have a much more lasting effect on what upholding the right actually means.
