Recreation facilities suffering from overuse

Re: Field of Dreams, or dreaming? (Editorial, July 18).

Thank you so much for this appropriate and timely editorial.

All the points for a serious conversation and a serious move forward toward recreation services in this area you managed to cover in this one editorial. I really appreciated you pointing out all the economic opportunities that we are missing out on.

All your points were covered in a meeting that Ravensong Pool users had in the spring of this year with the consultants that were hired by the RDN. For the population that we have in this area, our recreation services are just miserable and the ones that are here and usable are suffering from overuse.

I belong to a small group called the Ravensong Action Group. Our group’s focus is primarily an expansion of the current pool and a plan to build a new pool in the next 10-year plan. But every other recreation group has the same issue, overused or nonexistent facilities.

We need to be inviting a population to live here that covers all age groups, and in this day and age exercise is a huge part of lifestyle and health across all age groups.

I am in the senior age group but am thinking forward about the future for our young. So people out there, when the consultants have their plan of action ready for public input, please show up and push the RDN to make these plans a priority for our lives.

This is not an age issue, so no matter how busy our lives are please show up and if it comes to a referendum take the time to vote.
