Regulations cause confusion
I wish to express my frustration re: new city garbage and recycling systems. As children of the Great Depression, we are very aware regarding recycling, and have practised it for many years. We so appreciated the 20 years of service received from Cheap Garbage, a small, longtime local business who looked after our refuse, including small yard refuse. There are so many rules and regulations, and so many items which don’t qualify for pick-up. Requiring garbage only, but out by 5 a.m. for 7 a.m. pick-up makes it very inconvenient. Why not put same in a container? Common sense. Why fix what ain’t broke? Why not work towards the biggest garbage polluter, plastic packaging? It all appears complicated, along with hefty fines for non-compliance. Nasty. I thought we lived in a democracy, where choice is an option. I went to city office to clarify some points. I did expect staff to support the new system, however, I met with an officious, condescending lady whom I could not communicate with. This has added to my anger and frustration, and does not endear me to my city or its representatives. I understand Cheap Garbage was discouraged from bidding on the new system. Shame.
