Replace NATO with a European Armed Forces
NATO was created after WWII to keep the Russians out, the Germans down and to keep the U.S. in Europe. The U.S. controls NATO and through NATO has a great influence over European politics and economy. The U.S. is using its influence to transform NATO from defensive alliance to a military appendage of the U.S. empire against Russia and expanding NATO’s use by the U.S. outside of Europe such as the Middle East and even considered using NATO in Venezuela.
An independent Europe would be able to protect itself with its own armed forces and alliances. If NATO were disbanded, the regional powers of Russia, an independent Europe, China and the U.S. could establish geopolitical global stability involving more equal members.
The military focus would tend to shift from defence/offence to stability. The resulting “peace dividend” could be used by all nations to focus on trade and economic development. This, coupled with technological advances could result in a new global economic renewal.
It is suggested that consideration be given to formally disbanding NATO and replacing it with a European Armed Forces under European command and control.
