While I applaud the Qualicum Cat Rescue organization for their neutering program, a recent letter to the editor from a member of that organization didn’t get the point of my recent letter. The well fed, well-cared-for neighborhood cats I complained about are often “rescue cats” from her or other organizations such as the SPCA.
These rescue organizations have a responsibility to make it known to those adopting their cats that the cats should be kept indoors or under control and away from vulnerable wildlife.
In other words, inform and post the local animal control bylaw in their premises and discourage new owners from turning their new cats loose into our neighbourhoods to kill the local wildlife.
Do that and then I’d be happy to donate to their organization.
