Parksville’s byelection, coming up on October 22, is an opportunity for resident electors to return equilibrium to city council.
We need to choose a candidate with experience in government and a dedication to fiscal responsibility, infrastructure planning and downtown revitalization.
We need to select a candidate who will solicit residents’ opinions and recommendations on policies of direct concern to them such as overnight camping in Foster Park. This would be a positive change from current practice.
We need to choose a council member who will oppose excessive and unnecessary in camera meetings and open council’s deliberations to public scrutiny. This is a dire necessity in a participatory democracy.
Finally, we need an advocate of “controlled slow growth” in the face of rampant housing development and potential water shortages. These are the issues. The choice is ours.
