Good Samaritan
Last week a fire started with a vehicle pumping gas. The situation became out of control when flames reached over 8 feet tall and everyone around began to run away from the pumps yelling “fire”.
Greg Martinello was headed to the gas station to pick up supplies when he saw the flames and decided to act on it. As people fled the area, Greg busted open the fire extinguisher’s enclosed case and used the extinguisher on the fire. He risked his life to save a potentially hazardous situation for all involved.
Greg walked away with bloody knuckles from punching through the glass of the fire extinguisher and never asked for anything for his heroic actions.
He just shared with me a few days after when I asked him why his hand was covered in deep scabs. I feel this situation went unnoticed and that he should be recognized as a Good Samaritan in the community.
Market days
A huge shout out and thank you to the organizers and vendors at the weekly Saturday market. I’ve been to farmers markets in bigger centres than this that have less variety and less smiling faces.
Thank you for the chance to shop for local food and support local vendors. And thank you for a fantastic reason to get out of the house on Saturday morning before it was too hot to do anything!
Patios
I’ve got mixed feelings about the lovely patios and decks at the restaurants and bars here in town. First I love them! In an apartment with no balcony it’s nice to have someplace to go and sit outside and enjoy a beverage. On the other hand I will be spending waaaaaay to much money this summer.
Letter campaign
Thank you to Shannon Smith for her letter writing campaign attempting to draw attention to the safety issue at Three Valley Gap. Your hard work and dedication to this issue is inspiring and the community thanks you.
Smoking
Big ups to city council for updating the clean air bylaw to include public parks. It is a breath of fresh air! Rant to the people who don’t follow the rules. You aren’t allowed to bike on the trails and smoke anymore.
Big Bike
High fives to everyone who participated in the Big Bike Ride on Saturday for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. And hugs to Lesley Reid, the organizer of the Pharmasave team! It was such a good time, thank you for including us on the team.
River Rescue
Watery hugs to Char for saving my silly dog Eowyn who almost became a permanent swimmer in the Illecilewaet River last Friday. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Travels
Thank you and good luck to Tessa Davis for organizing the Revelstoke Secondary School band trip to Scotland! That is a huge job and the students and parents are grateful for all of the work you did. And high fives to the band students! They had to set aside their instruments and learn to sing for this trip. Great work everyone and have fun!

Weeds
It’s invasive species action month! Good on everyone who is fighting the good fight and taking care of those weeds, even the ones that don’t look like weeds. If you don’t know about weeds and invasive species please do some research, it is important for the environment and the community!
Lunch
Paramjit’s has the best butter chicken I have ever had! What a treat to sit on the sidewalk in the sun and have that dish with the delicious naan. Thank you!

Giant Growls to the people leaving dogs in vehicles. With the warm weather upon us this practice must stop. We all have fur coats on and it only takes minutes for the heat to be un-bear-able.
