A truck load of roses to our emergency health care providers. This week my wife suffered a minor stroke and we were amazed how quickly and professionally we were treated. The 911 operator was such a calming influence. The paramedics were so efficient and caring. The emergency staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital were so efficient and caring. This just confirms that we live in the best place in the world. We have to appreciate how lucky we are.

A garden full of red roses to all the people who love to gossip about their neighbours. It’s always wonderful to hear all the things they say you’ve been up to, that you had no idea about. Don’t stress about these people. Just smile, look at the source and enjoy a chuckle about all the stories you hear about yourself. Life is too short to let anyone else steal your happiness. Make a great day!

Rotten tomatoes to those advocating for a 60-bed transitional housing building right in the centre of a six-block triangle encompassing an elementary school, a high school and the newly approved 140-bed vulnerable senior’s home. Yes, we need a transitional housing facility. No, it should not be within striking distance of so many defenseless people. Put it out where they can’t hurt anybody.

Rotten tomatoes to the inconsiderate smokers who walk around Newton Pond Park every day and leave a trail of cigarette butts for the volunteers to pick up. Why can’t you take a container and clean up after yourselves!

A bushel of roses to the hard working staff at Bear Creek Park who work tirelessly to plant beautiful foliage and tidy the park continuously. And a bucket of rotten tomatoes to those who use the park but don’t pick up after themselves and leave trash everywhere. Parks are not a landfill for your waste! And to the elderly gentleman that I saw put his dirty tissue in the water bag around the tree, shame on you! Those bags are not for garbage. There are plenty of garbage bins around, use them!

Bouquets of roses to workers in the fast-food industry. Having never worked in the industry, I think you are sometimes under appreciated, being seen as the middle man between me and my food. However, your roles are necessary for the rest of us to get food so we can go about our days. Thank you.

Roses to everyone who is putting their names forward to run in Surrey this election. Whether I disagree or agree with you, I respect the fact you are running.

Roses, or a coffee card, to the gentleman with the cane who volunteers and picks up all the litter at SkyTrain King George Station and the bus stop. He does this to keep the area looking good. Please help by not throwing garbage and butts on the ground.

Rotten tomatoes to the City of Surrey for the planned four-storey building to house the homeless in the heart of Cloverdale. We already have a large complex for the homeless here in Cloverdale and now you want to add another 60 units? This is planned for the centre of town which is only about five blocks in total. We have many seniors here who, I am sure, are as intimidated as I am when approached by aggressive panhandlers that live in our area now. Can we not find another area of Surrey to balance this problem fairly?
