I would like to thank Baiba Coates for her letter to the editor in the Jan. 31 edition thanking the driver she frightened.
As I was driving down First Avenue in Qualicum Beach about three weeks ago, and started to turn right onto another street, I sensed something in front of me and slammed on the brakes.
A woman, dressed in grey to match the pavement, in a long coat from shoulder to mid-calf and grey toque/hat, suddenly appeared in front of me. My wife did not see her, either. Had I not stopped she would have walked into the front of my truck.
I think that was the biggest shock I have ever had, driving a variety of vehicles, in varied conditions, in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and B.C.
Please wear something, as safety experts suggest, that can be seen in poor light conditions and even in good light conditions. Make sure the driver has seen you before you walk out and demand your “right of way,” and listen to what Coates has written.
