After 16 years of debate, the Supreme Court of Canada found the B.C. government violated the charter rights of the B.C. Teachers Federation.
Apparently, a Liberal education minister tore up a valid contract unilaterally and underfunded education for the next 16 years.
In fact, last Nov. 16, 2016, just a few days before the SCC decided, the minister of education fired all Vancouver school board elected trustees. The issue was funding.
So how does a newly elected government handle such an issue? It seems to me that the Vancouver school board trustees should be reappointed without an election. That would right a grievous wrong done to the electorate.
Can the handling of the fired trustees in the North Okanagan-Shuswap be the same? By reappointment?
But then, that is why we have elections and courts.
