Am I alone in wondering what the future holds with regards to aging seniors, both male and female, who are living alone in this area? We see hundreds of new stand alone single family residential homes being built all around, which are essentially on in-fill properties.
Some two or so years ago there was a board displayed on a property on Jensen Avenue that advertised 62 new town homes coming soon. What happened? We saw the skeleton of a home being constructed, then the board came down and so did the skeleton. Where are the 62 homes?
What does the average aging senior look forward to when property taxes and increasing costs to maintain outpace their incomes and downsizing is a priority?
We have The Emerald Estates, Madison Court, Abby Lane and The Meadows which suits independent senior living. Then we have The Gardens and other community living senior accommodations, which many people don’t feel ready for.
When I was selling my townhouse in Craig Bay I was looking forward to Parksville Qualicum Beach being a really suitable location for me, and even although I have downsized, it is still quite a lot to upkeep alone. Yes, I can sell but where am I going?
This area needs to put its best foot forward and think about the future of our seniors. Build the larger properties for families and couples where there seems to be acres of land and use the in-fills for smaller homes for seniors.
