Shouldn’t hiking trails be jurisdiction of parks?
Budget transparency and full disclosure please.
We read in the Citizen that the MNC forestry department has a deficit of $592,000 following logging cancellation. The information comes from a report from the director of parks and recreation which cites ongoing costs for silviculture, land management and access. I have been told that this deficit includes the cost of maintaining and/or building hiking trails in the forest area. Should hiking trail cost not be in the parks and recreation budget? Are trail costs being swept under the forestry carpet because the parks and recreation budget is already excessive for the more than 50 parks in North Cowichan?
