Re: Wife killer pleads guilty in 2011 attack, June 11.
I do not understand why Manmeet Singh was not charged with first-degree murder.
He went to his wife’s workplace armed with a hatchet and two knives. Sounds premeditated to me.
She worked for a newspaper – not a retail store that sold and sharpened knives and hatchets! He didn’t go to her workplace to get his weapons sharpened.
It appears his actions were the result of cold-blooded planning that resulted in murder. He was not overcome in the heat of passion but acted as an executioner.
Now this young woman, Ravinder Kaur Bhangu, is forever dead. And what does he get? To live out his life in one of our comfortable prisons for the next 16 years. Then what? Murder again if the next woman he meets crosses him?
With the absence of death penalty, Manmeet Singh should be deported and serve his sentence in a prison in the country he originated from.

Editor’s note: Singh was charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on what was to be the first day of his trial.
