Site C dam provides clean energy

To the editor:

I don’t know how much it originally cost to build British Columbia’s big hydro dams in the ’60s and ’70s, but I would hate to imagine what it would cost to build them at today’s construction costs with today’s tough environmental and safety standards.

Just to renovate these hydro dams is going to cost $6 billion over the next few years. And building the Site C dam is going to cost up to another $10 billion for a single dam and the carbon-free clean energy it will produce.

It’s no wonder BC Hydro is raising its rates.

But if we fail to look after, and invest in, and add to the hydro legacy our parents, grandparents and W.A.C. Bennett handed us, we’re going to lose the prosperity and clean energy edge we have in a world where carbon-free clean energy is increasingly valuable and sought after.
