Six-figure salaries at city hall simply too high

There are over 100 public servants (all with fancy titles) in Nanaimo city hall who are enjoying this largesse.

To the Editor,

The time has come when politicians of all stripes must have their feet held to the fire.

Maclean’s magazine last month clearly exposed the “$100,000 club” –  i.e. those so called public servants who are taking every penny they can from ordinary taxpayers.

There are over 100 public servants (all with fancy titles) in Nanaimo city hall who are enjoying this largesse.

Then more recently the Tyee electronic weekly news letters pointed out that working in Nanaimo city hall enables senior bureaucrats to earn much more than public servants employed by Obama in the White House.

The Hay system to determine who gets massive salaries was not designed for city halls, but for businesses.

So the questions that need to be answered are, how do municipal public servants get away with their monstrous six-figure salaries? And who authorized city finance managers such power to plunder taxpayers’ pockets?
