Dear sir,
This morning (Monday, February 14) my daughter and I left to go to school a few minutes early, knowing with all of the snow we’ve had the walk would take longer.
Imagine our shock when we got to the sidewalk and it had waist deep snow still on it! We had to go all the way down Quail Street and walk down Kingfisher instead.
At lunch time I was waiting for my daughter to come home and had a scary thought that perhaps the sidewalks were still not cleared.
I went and checked – the sidewalks had still not been cleared!
Now I had to wonder which way would my daughter come home. She came home on Kingfisher which meant she had to walk on Nightingale Street – which has no sidewalk – and had to cross both of the openings of Mallard Street.
This is totally unacceptable.
As I write this letter, it is now 3:49 p.m. and the sidewalks have still not been cleared. What the heck is going on in Kitimat?
Anytime I talk with our mayor she tells me that Kitimat is known as a Garden City: who cares!
I don’t need flower beds at the firehall, graveyard or downtown, all I need is a safe way for my daughter to go from our home to her school.
I don’t think this is too much to ask.
Let the grass grow. Bring on the clover, dandelions, horsetail, etc. The bees, birds and Kitimat’s budget will all thank us.
Clear the snow as it falls, don’t wait until there is so much that the snow equipment gets stuck on our street (again and again).
How many people in town are dependent on our roads? Businesses lose money, people can’t get to hospitals and taxis can’t operate when there is too much snow.
Letter carriers are told not to deliver the mail when the streets haven’t been cleared.
Remember, councillor’s are voted in – be responsible with our money.
If we have no snow one year, keep the money in the snow removal budget for the next snowy year so if overtime is needed, the workers can be paid.
It shouldn’t be that hard to figure things out, after all, it comes down to common sense!
