Society should support teachers

At the outset I must say that I do not know anyone in the teaching profession, nor am I a relative of a teacher.

At the outset I must say that I do not know anyone in the teaching profession, nor am I a relative of a teacher.

It is simply that there are so many lopsided comparisons available with regard to teachers’ pay scale in relation to other members of our society.

We must remember that teachers are the first line, after parents, in pointing the direction in life to our children.

I am sure there are many of us today who can relate our success in our lives to teachers that made an impression on our young minds. I can still, generations later, remember the names of the teachers that made an impact on my life.

On the other hand, how many of us can remember the names of senators, politicians, athletes, CEOs who are drawing down the big dollars who have made our lives better for having been there.

Is it now time for us to look at the people who really lay a foundation for our lives and reward them accordingly.
