I would like to congratulate the Surrey Leader and columnist Frank Bucholtz for championing the important issue of the missing Highway 1 Rapid Bus Stop at 156 Street (The Leader, July 11).
I think everyone in Surrey has been waiting too long for improved public transportation.
We need to stop waiting and start engaging in democratic action that shows to our elected leaders that people are ready to stand up for better transit access and ultimately healthier communities.
An online petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/rapid-bus-stop-at-156th-underpass-for-surrey/) has been set up to gather support.
Its goal is 900 votes. I encourage everyone to take a couple of minutes and sign the petition. Further, please phone/email/fax your support to the City of Surrey, Mayor Watts, the Minister of Transportation Todd Stone and Amrik Virk, our local MLA for Surrey Tynehead.
Together, we can make our voices heard and pressure the government for better transit for Surrey, right now.
By supporting public transportation we can really keep beautiful British Columbia beautiful.
