Let’s look at some facts about the HST.
1. Prior to the last election, the Liberals promised in writing that they would not impose the HST.
2. A person making $40 an hour pays the same HST as a person making the minimum wage. A minimum wage earner, after paying 12 per cent on $10 an hour has $8.80 left, whereas a person making $40 an hour, after paying 12 per cent, has $36.80 left.
Tells us clearly who suffers under this tax grab.
3. The Liberal government tells us the HST is creating jobs. Our jobless rate has gone from 7.4 per cent to 8.8 per cent in one year under the HST.
4. The B.C. government’s independent panel found out the B.C. government is earning $820 million extra every year and that amount probably will go even higher in the years to come.
5. None of the HST revenue goes to health care, education or social programs.
For a person like myself with a Grade 8 education to figure out the above facts on HST clearly explains what is wrong with this tax grab.
