Religion or not, you either have empathy for your fellow man or not. There is plenty of evidence on both sides to show examples of cruelty.
I happen to be a non-believer and like to think I care about the world and am a totally moral person. Common sense dictates that a society will quickly fall into anarchy if it has no moral compass.
It does not need religion to make a person moral and caring. It needs society to care about the greater good rather than to put themselves first.
The U.S. has lots of religious fundamentalists, but I certainly don’t see that country as a good example. If you really want to point fingers, the problem lies with corporate greed and the desire for power and control
I am sure lots of CEOs go to church on Sunday and thank God for their $5 million bonuses.
