There was a near tragedy averted on the Labour Day long weekend in Vernon on Okanagan Lake by a Good Samaritan.
Thanks to Mr. Connelly, who recently moved to Vernon from Alberta.
In less than five minutes, my boat, with five occupants onboard, sank near Kin Bech.
Luck has it that Mr. Connelly was skiing with his family in his new boat.
He heard screams and whistles and then he plucked us from the water. I was the last one to get out, then it sank.
Once on board Mr. Connelly’s boat, the RCMP were alerted in Vernon with a 911 call.
We were asked if we were OK.
A comment was made from the RCMP that they would not attend. Then they said that they would call Vernon Search and Rescue and they would call back on my brother’s cell phone.
They never called back.
I would also like to give thanks to Owen and Jessie.
Later that evening, they recovered my boat that was partially submerged and they were able to tow it to shore at Kin Beach.
There are some good citizens out there and again thanks to the efforts of Mr. Connelly.
