Thanks for not using herbicides on dandelions

A letter to the editor by Cecile Pratt.

To the editor:

Well, it is dandelion season yet again and I would like to thank those residents of the Ranchettes who have refrained from the use of herbicides and have decided to favour the bees over the weeds.

The best way to have a green lawn is the regular use of a good fertilizer such as Scott’s Turf Builder. It may take a little time, but the grass will choke out the weeds if it is dense enough.

Using herbicide will kill the dandelion but it also leaves a hole in the lawn.

It takes about five minutes for one of the trillion seeds floating in the air to land on the barren spot and to create a new dandelion.

It is a never ending cycle.

Let’s choose honey on our breakfast toast over dead dandelions and not use herbicides. I thank you and the bees definitely thank you.
