It’s my turn to say thank-you.
I have lived in Surrey since 1959, raised my family here and watched the societal struggles that come with growth and progress.
Last Saturday, I played golf with a couple close friends in the morning, I was home just after noon and began helping my wife with one of the spring gardening projects that every homeowner takes on in the spring – nothing unusual just a regular Saturday.
Until I felt a severe pain in my chest. I sat down in my garage for a few minutes sure that it would pass. When it didn’t and the pain had spread to my arms, I went into the kitchen where my wife was making lunch, I told her I thought she might have to take me to emergency, (my wife is an RN at SMH). She took one look at me and dialed 911.
In minutes, some of Surrey’s finest arrived in my kitchen. I should know their names (Paul, John, I think) but my mind was pre-occupied. Two ambulances responded, a cardiac care unit arrived and my vitals were transmitted directly to the cardiac lab at RCH, I underwent a procedure for a blocked artery performed by Dr. Simkus.
Two-and-a-half hours after my wife made the call, I was in the recovery room waiting transfer to SMH. I can never repay the debt I owe to the first responders or the doctor and his talented team. I will be forever in their debt. Thank you we are all blessed to have people like them .
