The sounds of silence

My first comment: what an excellent editorial in the Western on March 16. Be sure to read it. Then read Terry Fallis’ great book on Canadian politics, The Best Laid Plans. It is killingly funny — but carries a message.

The other comment refers to Donna Schellenberg’s letter.

We had a wonderful performing arts facility. It was attractive (one woman sitting next to me there mentioned this and said “How I wish we had one as good as this in White Rock”.)

Artists from all over applauded its acoustics. All it needed was a larger stage — for the symphony. But it was people like you, Donna, who felt it should be torn down — although we could have raised the money to disconnect it from the new school — as  brave little Oliver is doing this coming year.

It makes no sense to tear a building down when there is nothing to replace it. Yes, not only adults but school children have suffered.  Are you willing to head a group who will raise the money to build a completely new facility? The city certainly does not have the funds.

We demolished a much-needed performing arts centre which seated 750. I have mourned its demise every day since.
