Read, Daniel 11:19 – 25
Julius Caesar returns to Rome where he is killed, stabbed 23 times, on the ides of March (March 15), 44 BC.
Octavian, the son of Cleopatra became Augustus Caesar, who “reformed the taxes” in his administration. Luke 2:1, “…in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.” (It was this tax that brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem)
He was succeeded by Tiberius, a vile person who had bouts with severe depression and bad moods.
Daniel 11:22 … yea, also the prince of the covenant. = Jesus Christ. Tiberius reigned in Rome from 14-37 AD and named Pontius Pilate governor of Palestine who ruled when Jesus was crucified in 31 AD.
Daniel 11:23 Rome joined other nations for political gain as well as to “absorb” them. During Tiberius’ reign, Romans allied themselves with the Jews. This is why the Jews said, “we have no king but Caesar” (John 19:15).
Roman emperors were known to renege on political promises. History shows that Rome used their smaller allies to perform their conquests for them and controlled the “religious” end to have control over the churches. Rome ruled over them before, during and after the time of Christ.
Daniel 11:24 starting with Tiberius, Rome became a global power. “enter peaceably” = Just as Rome does today, “by peace [they] shall destroy many.” (Daniel 8:25) Most were unaware of Rome’s plans to overthrow their allies because they came in bearing gifts and promises of friendship. Rome does this to this day. Her political movements allow her to gain kingdoms by craftiness or treachery Daniel 8:25
“the fattest places” = wealthy industrious nations like Phoenicia and Memphis in Egypt as well as other places.
“his father have not done” = Emperors of Rome changed their political m.o. from this point forward.
“scatter among them” = Rome “spread the wealth” so as to assure friends in even the small nations and granted their soldiers land in the territories they conquered.
“he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds” = none could resist the invincible armies of Rome. Rome had an agenda that worked behind closed doors designed to conquer and to absorb into the Roman empire. I believe this was how Satan was able to sow seeds with political tactics that would later be implemented in the New World Order of the end days.
From Tiberius on, Rome moved politically using pomp and circumstance as well as bribes and favors to influence all throughout the world. But they could only do so “for a time.” Rome fell in 476 AD, and regrouped under the Roman church. But even here they can only do as they do “for a time” because it is written in V 45 that it is here “he shall come to his end.” A “time” = a year in prophecy. See Numbers 14:34 or Ezekiel 4:6
A year consisted of 360 days. This “time” began when Rome had complete rule over all kingdoms in 31 BC. If you add 360 years you come to 330 AD. The exact year that Constantine moved the seat of power from Rome to Byzantium, later called Constantinople.
