The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) would like to acknowledge the overwhelming support that was displayed during this summer’s devastating wildfire season. A provincial state of emergency was declared in B.C. on July 7, 2017, and, over the next 71 days, almost 11,000 evacuees found refuge in the Regional District. Businesses, service providers, emergency personnel, Indigenous communities, and an unparalleled number of volunteers demonstrated their compassion, generosity, and undaunted community pride. “This summer was a shining example of community helping community,” says John Ranta, TNRD Chair. “Offers and donations started pouring in almost immediately, and kept going until every evacuation order was lifted. It was incredible.” The TNRD would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone.
