Editor, The Times:
On Saturday, Oct. 15, Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold its fifth annual Dessert Extravaganza fundraiser. The event will be held in the KOA Banquet Room from 7-10 p.m. The Dessert Extravaganza is a buffet of decadent delights prepared by local culinary artists and businesses.
The entertainment this year will be Bill Fowler and Friends. The door prize this year will be a round trip for two, sponsored by Westjet. You must be in attendance to win, and the prize is non-transferable.
Silent auction items this year include a VIA Rail round trip for two from Kamloops to Edmonton, a Wells Gray Air Service flight for two, and a two night stay at Alpine Meadow Resort.
The Auxiliary was started in 1970 by community members interested in getting a hospital for Clearwater and surrounding area. Our Auxiliary has grown to over 55 members who volunteer their time and have raised more than $420,000 to purchase equipment for the hospital and ambulance service. Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital is the only hospital between Kamloops and Jasper.
All of the money raised stays in our community. Keeping our hospital up-to-date with equipment makes it more appealing to temporary locums and longer term doctors.
Advance tickets are only $25 each and are available at Watauga Village Office, KOA front desk, Hospital Gift Shop and from Auxiliary members. Last year we sold out two weeks in advance and had to turn away numerous people, so please remember to get them early. Tickets are non-refundable.
If you are interested in donating an item for the silent auction, sponsoring a table (a great way to advertise your business), or if you love to bake and would like to donate a dessert, please call Fay 250-674-2700 or Leslie 250-674-3205
