This is a reply for August 24th article “Getting frustrated by dangerous crosswalks”
The last article makes a very good point that no one driving through Agassiz stops for really ANY of the crosswalks, but personally I think that if you know the cars don’t stop at that particular intersection why would you keep going back to it? Why not go out of your way to another safer intersection?
The crosswalk between the bank and the school is probably the most unsafe crosswalk no matter what time of day it is, even at 10 p.m. I’ve been walking across with the lights flashing and still I have had to stop in the middle of the road to let the cars go through instead! I agree that something desperately needs to be done ASAP!
I’ve seen once in a blue moon that police officers will stand at the back of the school and pull some people over, but seems to me this needs to happen more often, and not just at the crosswalk by the school, the crosswalks on Morrow Road by A&W, cars don’t care which way your walking if your in their way they drive through you.
I say this in confidence because it has happened to me and my husband. We were crossing from the opposite side of A&W towards Heath Road, I jumped out of the way but my husband was lucky I screamed and he jumped on the hood of the elderly lady’s car, which to mention she did not stay at the scene, she had a small dog in her lap, said sorry and drove off down Morrow Road.
Another incident was at the crosswalk by the school, I was walking across the road starting from the school, walked through the first lane then had to stop because a truck was flying through in a hurry, I continued walking and got all the way into the last lane (closest to bank) when a elderly woman didn’t seem to want to stop, even though I was already in the lane that didn’t stop her she kept driving and I slapped my hand on her car and she sped up. I followed her to the post office where she chose to ignore me.
So, instead of people complaining constantly about how horrible it is to walk around Agassiz, why not do something about it? And I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say we don’t want to hear how there’s not enough authority figures to do what we ask, all I can say is PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN, before someone gets badly hurt!
