Dear editor,
Sadly, the tragic death of two students in Nanaimo, hit while jaywalking, will likely happen here too. The area at the top of Ryan Road hill in front of the entrance to North Island College is an accident waiting to happen.
Anyone who drives up Ryan Road hill knows how hard it is to keep to the posted speed. Radar does not seem to reduce the speeding. In the opposite direction vehicles are trying to merge from two lanes into one.
Now, due to the parking fees at the college over 15 cars per day are parked on the side streets opposite the college. This means, at least 30 times per day students are jaywalking across a very fast road. When they leave the area many make a left turn from the side street onto Ryan and down the hill. Both circumstances are accidents waiting to happen.
