Re: Death reignites safety concerns (Gazette, Feb. 28)
It is a tragic thing to find out my prediction of a person’s death on Goldstream Avenue, which I outlined in a concerned letter to City of Langford’s engineering department in March 2013, came true.
The minute I saw plans for the new Leigh Road – they did not include a southbound exit lane off Leigh Road or a right turn exit lane off Spencer Road – I knew making a narrow residential road into a highway, with no sidewalks and no bike lanes, was going to result in disaster.
I watched with dismay as Langford put up barriers on Spencer Road, preventing a right turn, instead of just creating a proper right exit lane.
A right-turn exit at Spencer would have been a far safer interim option than forcing all the highway traffic to travel miles down a residential road not designed for it.
