I read your article about the young man’s memorial that was destroyed (“Memorial vandalized at Chemainus Lake,” Citizen, Aug. 24), it seems there must be people going around just doing this for their pleasure.
My husband passed four months ago in an accident in Nanaimo and we also put a memorial up for him. Two weeks ago my daughter was there and the plaque was ripped off and the cross kicked in.
I never thought of going to the police with this, reading this article made me decide to maybe inform them of this as well.
It is already traumatic for a family losing a family member in a tragic event and these perpetrators has no feeling or respect for this. But I have decided they will not intimidate me, even if I have to put the memorial up 1,000 times I will keep putting it up, just sad that society has become so sick.
I hope they get found and held responsible for their actions.
