Mr. Mayes: With disgust, I see on the news that Veterans Affairs offices and veterans benefits are being closed and cut.
I voted for you in the last election, because I felt that the Conservatives under Mr. Harper, actually gave a damn about our military, and veterans.
I thought that maybe we finally had a government that would undo all of the Trudeau/Hellyer dismemberment of our military. It seems I was wrong.
I’m sure there must be other areas that can be cut rather than anything for our veterans.
The news story said that veterans could still access help from Service Canada offices.
I guarantee you no one from Service Canada has any idea about veterans’ needs and problems.
Studies done after the Vietnam war showed that veterans responded better to treatment from Veteran agencies, and not mainstream, one size fits all care.
Perhaps cutting some of the dead weight of the Senate might be a better idea. It certainly is one that is more palatable to Canadians.
I should add, I am neither a veteran nor have I ever served in the military. I am a Canadian who is proud of our military men and women and will support them in way I can.
Please find some other way of balancing the budget.
These men and women have the guts to put it on the line for Canada. Maybe we should have the guts to take care of them.
