Tomorrow, we will wrap up the current session of the legislature. Time really flew by, but there have been many vigorous debates on legislation and issues that are important to British Columbians.
I had the pleasure on several occasions to deliver statements in the house, including statements recognizing the contribution of B.C. women in the legislature, rural fall fairs, and First Nations economic development initiatives taking place in our region.
Last week municipal elections were held across the province, and I would like to personally give my congratulations and best wishes to Mayor-elect Jack Jeyes and Mayor John Ranta, and their respective elected councils. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with all of you over the next four years. To everyone who decided to run for office this year, thank you for your efforts and putting forward your ideas. It takes a lot of courage and dedication to put your name and ideas on the ballot.
On the topic of municipal elections, the Special Committee on Local Elections Limits has extended the deadline for submissions from the public on principles for expense limits in relation to elector organizations and third party advertisers. I have been tasked in chairing this committee, and the deadline to send written or on-line submissions is Friday, Dec. 5.

Finally, some great news for our community from the Ministry of Transportation. The local highway network will get some significant improvement with paving projects taking place on Hwy 97C and Evans Rd., and Hwy 1 from Cache Creek to the Hwy 97 Bonaparte River Bridge.
These roads are vital to move products and people, and used heavily all year round by residents, commercial truckers moving products to and from the Ashcroft Terminal and by the resource industry.
