Volunteers the key behind ‘the Walk’

Thanking the community for the great turnout at the Investors Group Walk For Alzheimer’s

To the editor;

We would like to thank the community for the great turnout at the Investors Group Walk For Alzheimer’s on May 7.

The Fall Fair hall turned out to be a pretty good location, giving us a bit more room to spread out all the many tables with displays, prizes and other items.

Thank you to the Barriere Legion Ladies Auxiliary for providing the delicious lunch.  These ladies have been serving up a light lunch for the Walk for the past several years and it is greatly appreciated.

The many volunteers who helped sell raffle tickets, who bundled up all the door prizes and made them look pretty, who sat and counted all those jelly beans, who manned the registration and banking tables, who set up all the tables and chairs and then cleaned them all up afterwards, who greeted walkers as they arrived – without you, there would be no Walk.

A special thank you to our 97-year-old flower girl, Peggy Armstrong.

A fantastic job was done by all.

The raffle prizes were awarded as follows: first prize went to Laura Pickering, second prize went to Steph Turner, and third prize went to Leon O’Dette.

A note of interest is that all of the winners were from Clearwater!

The jelly beans were won by Steve Coburn with a guess of 414 – there were actually 434 in the jar.

Thank you to all those who came out from Clearwater to help support our Walk; the honouree this year was Joyce Harrington, who lives in Clearwater.

If you have a 2018 calendar handy, please mark the first Sunday, May 6, for next year’s Walk.  We hope to see you all there!

With heartfelt thanks,

Liz Gilbertson and

Margaret Houben
