I am writing to ask Mayor Dianne Watts to rescind her invitation to George W. Bush, who is scheduled to speak on Oct. 20 at the Surrey Regional Economic Summit at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford.
Bush is a war criminal, guilty of authorizing torture and launching an illegal war on Iraq based on lies.
Bush should not be allowed a safe haven in Surrey or anywhere else in Canada.
Thus far, the federal government in Ottawa has shamefully failed in its duty to deny entry or to arrest Bush and other officials of his administration reasonably suspected of war crimes.
That is why I am asking Watts to do the right thing and cancel Bush’s appearance.
Having a war criminal speak in Surrey will not increase the prestige or the business climate in Surrey. Rather it will be a stain on the city’s reputation.
