We have separate branches of government — a good thing

It is hard to believe how ignorant many are about how our government, judicial system and law enforcement works.

They are separate and independent. If an elected member interferes, including our prime minister, a premier of a province or other elected officials, they could go to jail. The enforcement investigates and charges suspected entities and that is as far as they can go. The judiciary, through the courts, delivers a verdict and a sentence. If incarceration is the sentence then that is another independent operation.

Each separated to insure against undue influence of one on the other and as another safeguard there is an appeal process and a number of court levels up to federal and provincial supreme courts. Since many Canadians do not get it, it is little wonder that many foreign entities do not. Our elected bodies make laws, allot funds to projects, approve applications and tell lies about what they have done and are going to do after the next election.
