Re: Wildflower Marijuana’s proposed production facility located next to the River’s Edge neighbourhood.
The details aren’t clear, but according to Wildflower’s press releases the size of facility could be similar to that of a big-box store, only with fences much like that of a prison. Their high-security facility will include double-barbed-wire fencing, a high-tech vault, concrete reinforced walls, floodlights and video monitoring systems, according to Health Canada’s security requirements.
Would you build a prison next to a school? How about a commercial grow facility next to a kid’s camp? Seven Springs Camp is zoned for school use and shares approximately 700 meters of fence line with the proposed property. Seven Springs Camp and Retreat has been operating in Nanoose Bay for 17 years.
We host community and children’s groups, including summer camp for kids and teens, the Girl Guides, Brownies and other school groups, and we have worked hard over many years to promote a safe, fun environment surrounded by nature.
Our neighbours and our local community of River’s Edge have been very vocal in their opposition to this site location and we are simply asking that the larger community of Nanoose Bay and Nanaimo are made aware that Seven Springs is also one of neighbouring properties to the site.
Furthermore, adversity is to be expected when legislation is in its infancy. It would be prudent of Wildflower to show some integrity in this process instead of keeping the proposed location a secret from neighbouring residents and exploiting the poor planning of our provincial and federal governments.
