The writer of the letter (Numbers game PNR May 11) clearly confuses the purpose of a petition, with that of a referendum.
For example, let’s say a BC resident begins a petition to be presented to the provincial government to show support of more funding for cancer research. The petition holds 100,000 signatures. Certainly that doesn’t mean that the other four million people residing in the province are against more funding for cancer research.
Mr. Slater needs to put his calculator aside and open up his dictionary.
