The Ridge Meadows Pride 2003 team won bronze at the B.C. under-14 A softball championships last weekend in Duncan.
The Pride finished eighth in round-robin play, despite playing mainly against teams a year older, to capture the last playoff birth at the provincials.
The Pride, who won the provincials in the u-12 A division last year, opened the playoff round with 3-2 victory over the tournament’s top seed, the Tri-City Titans.
Ridge, playing its fourth game of the day in stifling heat, dropped its next playoff game 14-1 to the Surrey Storm.
On the final day, the Pride rebounded with a 4-2 win over the ‘02 team from Ridge.
The Pride played Tri-City again next. Up 1-0 in the third with the bases loaded, the Pride got a single to score two more. The Titans rallied late two score two runs, but the Pride held on for a 3-2 win.
Needing a win to advance to the championship final, the Pride fell to the Storm.
The Pride got strong pitching, timely hitting and strong defense throughout the provincials and brought home bronze.
